  • When are classic Escorts not classic? When they are brand new! This is the MST Mk2, a completely new car with no Ford badges on it, built from the ground up in Wales. Jonny Smith gets the world exclusive first drive of this MST mk2 tarmac rally spec development car, equipped with 2.5-litre Duratec engine on throttle bodies, and reviews it around the spiritual home of the rwd rally Escort.

I had two MK2 escort's and the best car ever made in my opinion. there is a call for a good basic car now without all the electric crap but not being negative petrol engine cars are being phased out ? God forbid, and electric cars will be the norm " depressing to think " But we need to keep these old car and bikes going for our own sanity. Neil

After watching this interesting video it occurred to me you may find it interesting to look in to the cars that Ford and Vauxhall, among others, built for Military and Police undercover units in the 1980’s, Vauxhall Cavaliers with Lotus engines and suspension etc also Ford Escort vans with Mexico underpinning etc to name a couple

This is actually a good idea as it will stop people converting standard Escorts into non genuine RS rally cars. It's a bit like the MGB, MG Midget and Mini heritage parts supply company but for Ford Escorts.
By the way you need to be careful driving around North Wales as you might meet a little blue invacar driving around.

Pretty rad! If Ford cranked out base model Escorts today, people would buy them - but they are in reality going to stop building standard cars.

I watched a video of the 1967 motor show yesterday (worth watching) and I thought to myself, I wish those modern day designers would throw away all of their computors now because every car looks the same.. They'll never design another Mk1 Cortina or a 58 PA Cresta.. We are all driving around in wedges of cheese just to save 4 or 5 miles to a gallon.. There are two things in life that should never be wider at the rear.. Cars and women..

Oh my god jonny id by one tomorrow if I had deep pockets, fantastic content, loving the allegro project but this takes me way back, my 1st car was a 1972 two door 1300 mk1 escort, I paid £ 35 for it, and when I moved out of my mums at 17 I had nowhere to store so I gave it to my best mate, what a mistake, im now holding on to a 90s ford mondeo in rarish spec, struggling for funds to restore it but im not letting it go lol, need to get it on your cars of the people project channel, are you doing anymore of those, never done a video of myself or the car before, how do I get one to you? Loving the channel you car pervert you lol 😆

    • Ben Tullett
      Ben Tullett Day ago

They would have had to ask permission I guess. I think as long as you don't fit the manufacturers logo they are ok with it. Ford have allowed other companies to produce replicas of their cars take the South African company who produce the Ford GT40 replicas.

My only gripe is it's way way out of my price range. I'm sure they could charge a lot less than 17 grand for a body shell wouldn't it be nice if they did. Perhaps the price is justified as I know what kind of machinery is needed I assume that they remade the tooling for the presses and I've worked alongside toolmakers as a sheet metal worker and I know that would have been many many man hours of blood sweat and tears.

That car looks as cool 😎 as they did when they where first made , I passed my test in a Mk1 1600 G T in the early 70s , Fords at the time had great cars out I owned quite a few in my life , Escort Mk 2 , Cortina Mk 1 & a Mk 5 , Ford Granada 2litre , and a Ford Corsair V4 2 Litre . Love the video and who wouldn't love all these Fords .

Loved this video, really enjoy your content, and want to see a lot more of it so please take this in the most positive way possible. It gave me the shivers to see someone driving a fully caged car with a standard seatbelt and no helmet. I’m not a health a safety nut - my weekend car is open topped, minimal roll over protection and no driver aids - but driving a caged car like that you’re just a minor prang away from head-butting the roof bar over the driver’s door. Just not worth it.
