    What is that 7.5£ chocolate bar!? The most premium of premium Austrian chocolate is not more that 3.5£ and its slightly bigger, Fairtrade, Biological the cocoa comes from wherever you imagine that good one comes from.

    Farmers markets are some of the best places to get premium ingredients at a fraction of the price. Just watch out for scummy repackers who dont even grow their own food.

    No.. hell no! Nothing, abso-fucking-lutely nothing can justify a 17x increase in price for the same piece of food, not in a normal world anyway, some of those "premium" foods are just like those designer purses for women.. it's undoubtedly better, but like 3-5x the worth, not bloody 17 times more..

    How about a frozen vs unfrozen. Frozen food has a big stigma but sometimes is better than what is available "fresh" due to season.

    Pro: Like the comparison testing - good idea. People above have given great ideas in regards to future items & products.
    Con: Difficult to follow which was premium and which was cheaper. Also, the dry erase board made it difficult to see what was written. I feel like this could have been showcased in a simpler/easily understandable format. It's like you took a simple task and complicated it. Execution of the game and video needs work.

    Some ideas for things you could try: milk/cream (huge differences in prices in NZ, I assume it's the same there?), coffee/tea, vanilla extract vs pods

    Add a few micrograms of citric acid and the cheap tomatoes would be worth every penny (and flipping then some) of the 5 times tomatoes. Don't believe me? Do it yourself. I've rocked my entire families lives with this one small change. I normally use Ratatouille and challange family members to replicate what I've done. It's been almost 30 times now.
    Edit, I had to change life with lives, a simple typing error. Still learn from others as the citric acid can be bought for a penny or less for any serving.

    I frown on frozen because the breaking down process turns some vegetables to slimy mush when you might want a more firm crispy texture.

    I can never decide if I should fork out extra for the fetta cheese I'm adding to salads or stick to the cheep store brand.
    I've only paid for the cheep chedders... Unless I'm buying smoked in which case I go for a middle of the road brand.

    In my boyfriend's family, we play a game that is similar to this, but instead of comparing "raw" ingredients, we compare processed foods like chocolate bars or fruit yoghurts. There are quite a few cheap versions that taste a LOT better than the expensive original (e.g. Ferrerro Rocher don't hold a candle to their discounter counterparts)!

    Have you guys done vanilla? Here we usually use the powder kind i.e fake vanilla, but it's what we're used to. I once tried using a vanilla pod but wasn't impressed with the result. I think because they weren't premium. They had a relatively good price after all

    Loved this, hope you do it again! Maybe some less obvious examples next time? Like it was validating to have confirmation that what I already do is the correct way, but it'd be nice to have some that make me go "oh! I don't need to spend more on that?!" or "ohh if I spend more it's actually worth it?!" - educational AND entertaining ;)

    While I agree with the peas that frozen doesn't necessarily mean less quality than fresh, I do have interesting experience with frozen carrots. My daughter, who loves carrots and often think she's a bunny, hates frozen carrots. Even when she was little and we cooked the carrots the same way, she would taste it and went 'yuck' and spit it out if it was frozen carrot, but munched down ones that are from fresh carrots. I do feel the freezing process damaged some of the 'texture' to veges and so they tend to be softer and/or a change in taste. I guess what I'm saying is, different people like their veges from different sources? lol
    (Personally I prefer fresh carrots too, and broccoli, but indifferent to peas or spinach.)

    I though England prices were steep and just realised that it's a lot cheaper than in Geneva where I live. A tin of tomates for 40p... or 50 rp (0.50 CHF), that's not happening! You'll be lucky to find one for a pound.
