    You could say whatever you want. But I believe the best way to describe it is this;
Mahomes would be like Rodgers without Kelce & Hill.
They're both great and I'm not saying who's better or whatever. But they're both incredibly talented, don't have a great deff (untill last year Packers deff wasn't that impressive) but one has 2 HOF type weapons (and certainly top 3-5 in the leauge rn) and one just has 1 very good reciever.
So, am I saying Mahomes wouldn't be great otherwise? No ofc not, but it wouldn't be this obvious.

This is a dumb argument. Yes, Mahomes has great players around him. Yes, they make him an even better QB. As others have said, any great QB who has ever played in the NFL has had to have weapons/great players to throw to. If you want to see how good Mahomes is without the best players around him, just go back and look at his TT highlights. He was still slinging the rock to college players, all over the field, just like he does now.

So we are going to discredit Mahomes' greatness because of his team? Reid is getting the pieces together for his offense THROUGH THE DRAFT! The better question is, "What are the other teams doing out here in their drafts?"
    Tyreek - 5th round
Kelce - 3rd from Cincinnati, he was a QB
    DeMarcus - 4th "
    Mecole - 2nd "
    Kareem - 3rd from Toledo
Sammy was our only FA we brought in.
What is these other teams' excuse?

Stephen A's comparison of football to basketball is assenine. Football has designated roles where you HAVE to rely on other players to make plays. Basketball, just because you have your designated spots doesn't mean you can't do something yourself. KD can take over a game himself and not rely on anyone else like Kobe or Lebron. Football has so many other components that all rely on each other for success. The O-line has to hold up the pocket. The WR have to be fast and lose their coverage. Everyone is dependent on other players for opportunities.

  • childatheart1983
    childatheart1983 6 months ago

Why is no one making the argument that...it doesn't matter how fast the wide receiver is, if the ball doesn't get there because the QB doesn't have the arm strength, velocity and accuracy to match the receiver's trajectory, it doesn't even matter. If the QB doesn't have the decision making skill to decipher in 3-4 seconds whether to dish off to his TE or WR or run it himself while scrambling in the pocket, again it doesn't matter what weapons there are. If the QB can't get the ball there, the weapons don't even matter. That's what Patrick Mahomes brings to the table. Talent combined with football IQ.

Not 1 receiver on the Chiefs roster was drafted in the first round (except Watkins who was drafted by the Bills in 2014...and not a primary target). The receivers that were on the roster before Mahomes were considered good, but not great...they didn’t make Alex Smith great. Face it, Mahomes is a once-in-a-lifetime talent...not question!

This is the dumbest analysis how can a quarterback be good if he doesn’t have a supporting cast people have said oh Tom Brady doesn’t have the weapons to win come on man I’ve never seen a quarterback win a game alone this is a team sport so this conversation is a waste of time that’s like a boxer who is undefeated and good but a person says he hasn’t fought anyone he can’t help it if no one in his class can beat him and he doesn’t duck and dodge anyone stupid conversation

  • Brandon Miley
    Brandon Miley 8 months ago

The only difference between Alex Smith’s team and Mahomes’ team is one player and that player is Pat Mahomes. Mahomes’ team is a near copy and paste of Smith’s. The WRs, RB, and TE are the exact same. Smith lost to the titans and Mahomes is in the Super Bowl. SAS argument is “completely asinine” and borderline “ blasphemous!”

No QB in the league would be AS good as they are without some of their offensive weapons. That's literally just a fact. Some qbs are able to overachieve with their weapons, like russell wilson, which I don't think mahomes would do as well, but we don't know

I loved Alex Smith when he was here and I wish him the best but if he was still lined up under center instead of Mahomes when we went down 24 points against the Texans it would have been over. In 2017 Smith had Kelce, Hill, AND Hunt and the best we could do was go 10-6 and lose in the Wild Card YET AGAIN. So as talented as the guys around him are Mahomes has been the influencer for the elevation of play not the other way around. Everybody sees it but only the haters don't want to admit it sadly.
