The Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser Is an Old-School Family Wagon

  • Published on Jul 11, 2019
The Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser is an amazing station wagon -- and a relic from a different era. Today I'm reviewing this 1985 Custom Cruiser to show you what the family wagon looked like 30 years ago -- and I'm going to show you al the quirks of the Oldsmobile wagon. Then I'm going to drive it to see what the Custom Cruiser is like on the road.

I tell you. For some reason, no matter how big a car is, rear leg room will always suck. Other than that, this is a pretty cool car!

Awesome ride. My parents couldn’t afford one of these. We had a beat up chevy sedan of sorts. Used to run over our bikes all the time.

Do you realize you americans used to build insane illogic "cars" before we Europeans flooded you market with proper cars showing you what it means to design and build a car and forcing you to comply or you'd go totally out of business?

Isn't it missing cover panels for the third row seat? They're supposed to fold out when you hide the seat to give you a completely flat floor. Otherwise, how nice to see a classic wagon survivor that hasn't been destroyed in a derby... hopefully there are more out there that people will preserve.

We had an 86, and it became my first car!!! I was born in 82, we got it 1yr old in 87, went all over the place with it, and I’ll never forget my brother and sister and I singing Whitney Houston on a hairbrush in the back seat.
    Man, the memories.....
I’m 38 now, and if I could find one, I’d buy it in a heartbeat. And shoehorn an LS into it lololol.
A Great car. It does pretty well offroad too...

Ford had it's 'Magic Doorgate from 1965 so it's about 20 years behind. This bodystyle came out in the mid 70's so these cars were quite smaller and lighter than their predecessors. That explains the lack of legroom.

strange how he says there is no styling in the dash he says it like todays cars have any styling in any part of the cars today have no straight lines chrome or wood tone that looks or remotely fells real. what it really has it hideous shapes , and plastic and don't get me started on the whole look on todays cars.

I loved the Station 💞 Wagons back in the day! A friend of mine, from my childhood, his father had 1 and when it wasn't used for work, we rode in it as children sometimes when his father drove. The first car that I ever bought, was a 1984 Mercury Lynx Station Wagon in 1989! Station Wagons are beautiful! I never got the 1 that I really wanted which was the Chevy Nomad of the late 1950-1960's era. That was the car! The Cadillac Hearse was the other from the early 1970's was the other!

The second video of yours I watched in 24 hrs, but had to turn it off because your such an ass and clown. You belittle features of a car with no basis in realty, so why waste another minute watching? People watch for insight into a car not your juvenile, flippant jokes. Will start making my own FLash-player car videos and bury you into oblivion?

I was about to make a comment myself on the exact same things. Thank God somebody else is saying it too, though I will say this:
      Hey Doug,
When you cringe at the rear-view mirrors not being electric, or the car being big, or the taillights also being that breaklights, or the name of the car, I'm not cringing with you, I'm cringing at you. It's painful to watch, and your jokes aren't even funny either. This video (and a lot of your other videos that I've seen thus far) are just you going off on a tangent for about 20 minutes scoffing at the car because its old and different. Meanwhile, you haven't got a clue as to what the actual hell you're talking about, which proves what an ignorant ass you are.
There is zero intelligence or knowledge to it at all, just a dork who doesn't know his own ass from his elbow ripping on a car. "I don't know what the F/R thing means on the cassette player! Omg, old cars are so weird! Lol!" I'm younger than you Doug, and even I knew the F/R meant 'Forward' and 'Reverse'. You're a millennial so cassettes were your generation, what's your excuse for not knowing that? You got alzheimer's in your 30's or something? Older cars are products of their time. That's how cars were back then, big deal.
As a car guy who reviews cars, don't you think it would be a good idea to *know* cars? That doesn't mean just knowing the names of models or makes. To give an example, when you had the hood up, I noticed somebody had placed the air filter on this Olds upside-down. Not that you realized it yourself, it was staring right at you.

My first car was a 1985 Chevy Celebrity station wagon. This was in 1986, so It was a brand new car, but it was a station wagon. Anyway, it had the extra seat in the way back, and I beat that car like it owed me money. All 2.5 liters of 4 cylinder power.
