Gotta be brutally honest. I recently came across this guys short BBC clip and thought I’d check it out. Apart from some great camera work... Not a big fan. I’ve been plane spotting for about a decade and this is really quite new. I’m a bit of a traditionalist, in that I enjoy videos without music or commentary and just ATC and the raw sound. However I can see the appeal of Big Jet TV. I’ll keep watching and maybe I’ll warm up to it, but for now, it just isn’t my cup of tea.

You caught our landing at 6:20:00! I operated the 777-200ER (G-YMMH) back in from YYZ (delayed by 6hrs & 30mins) - It was very bumpy!

Finally got chance to watch (16/8). Air traffic wouldn't directly tell inbound pilots about standing turbulence, only microbursts that are very transient. That info would be on the ATIS, a different radio frequency, running a loop tape that gives all field info, changed as often as needed. Hearing you struggling to explain the shed turbulence in a crosswind - picture the wind blowing across, and hitting the shed, it can't go through, so it has to go over. That creates a positive pressure in front, and a slight vacuum behind, the shed. In turn, this pulls the wind back down, but at the same time, makes it roll. So picture a swiss roll of air in the low pressure zone, that gets bigger as it rolls, until it is pushed away by a new one developing. You end up with a series of swiss rolls bowling across the field in the direction of the wind, which tries to twist the aeroplane round in it, in the direction of the rotation of the roll.

Jerry, what's the deal with joining ? I tried all ways possible today & just kept hitting a brick wall, all i'm getting is a dead youtube link page saying "sorry about that" or it's just linking to your FLash-player home page.

The planes with propellers look like sea gulls coming in. I don’t think I’ve ever heard what their purpose is????? What attach propellers to a perfectly good motor?

@ Big Jet TV, I'm surprised that you don't monitor the ATC tower approach frequencies for more insight as to what's coming in & what the ATC & pilots are saying.

Yes i caught that in the show, funny old law that. i wasn't suggesting that you overlay it on to the video or stream, only that one of you are listening to it for information.

It's against the law in the UK to broadcast ATC @Walter Sobchak, so we aren't able to monitor ATC on the show.

It's amazing to see the footage of the BA A319 as the right wing suddenly lifts just before touchdown.
I was on that flight from Newcastle, seat 21F right hand window seat.
It was a very bumpy turbulent 8 mile approach, there was a spontaneous gasp from all the passengers as the wing lifted.
I spoke to the captain later and said "that was a good a bit of flying!!"
He smiled and said "thank you"

I was on Air Lingus at 17:15 from Dublin. That pilot was absolutely balls to the walls. He also took off on a tarmac before another landing plane cleared it haha
Watch out for those Irish pilots 😂

  • Fire Up

How do these planes work. When they look like they are going to have a messy landing the plane seems to quickly correct itself in time to land fairly smoothly. The near wing strike plane landed its left side wheels first and instantly corrected itself to avert any damage.

"Go on son" is one of Jerry's sayings, not really aimed at the pilot per se but you do make a good point Abby, and btw I'm female too ;) Ok so we can't go with "Go on Capt" because it could be the FO landing.... any ideas? :D

Only here because it was on trending... I'm not a plane, train or anything "spotter" - but fair enough if you're into all that jazz...
The thing I wanted to mention was, that it's amazing to see them all landing safely in mad weather conditions... especially for someone who always has what probably is a rather irrational fear of flying, watching this has restored my faith a little in how safe it is.
(P.S. I'll still probably get drunk next time I'm on one, just so it will speed up the journey 🤣😂)
