  • Red Bull caused a shock in the Formula 1 summer break by announcing it has dropped Pierre Gasly back to Toro Rosso, replacing him with rookie Alexander Albon - just over a week after the team said Gasly's drive was safe until the end of the year. Scott Mitchell explains why Red Bull felt the time was right to make the change, why it chose Albon over the more experienced Daniil Kvyat, and what it means for Red Bull's second seat alongside Max Verstappen for 2020

They need to give their second drivers a chance and stop kissing Max his ass as much. Forced Ricciardo out as well.

It's not like these young drivers aren't under enough pressure and then RedBull expects immediate perfection from them. I don't believe in that kind of management because it's too easy to fail thinking you're going to lose your job after every mistake, which even the veterans make. Not to mention that you can never even trust them when they announce "he's our guy the rest of the year" and let you go a week later. Who the hell would want to work for any company like that?! Build your guy's confidence and show him you support him and he'll prove himself.

Think of the marketing side of things too, I’m pretty sure Red Bull or in Thailand (Gating Deang) is pretty popular in Southeast Asian counties too, not to forget he’s the only driver from there would make more revenue for Red Bull. Especially in Vietnam.

These guys have so much pressure on them, driving 200mph whilst sitting about a foot off the ground with their lives at risk... on top of all that you get dropped for being 0.5 seconds slower than your teammate. Insane.

Made the right call, and they’ll go with Kvyat for next year.
As you say, the remaining of this year gives them a good chance to get some important data in Albon and see if he’s good enough to step up. But in the end I think they’ll play it safe(safer) and choose Kvyat for next year and pre season testing. as he has matured and will be able to compete for podiums, without beating verstappen on a regular basis - perfect number 2 driver

So that’s how F1 world works huh Albon finished 3rd last year and he’ll actually drive the best car of all the rookies this year while Russell finished 1st and he’ll drive the worst car on the grid ... I think Norris was actually the most lucky one there because Albon has a lot of pressure on his shoulders now and Russell has a rubbish car

I've got mixed emotions about this, though I'm generally not surprised about the Gasly demotion. I figured that would happen, considering Gasly's underperformance. I mean it is true he has sixth place with a few top 10 finishes, but he has been lapped a few times by Max Verstappen, who has performed far better than Gasly. My guess is his quick jump to Red Bull after Ricciardo left for Renault was too quick for him and he was not accustomed or ready yet to tackle the more superior car of the Red Bull team. It makes sense to give Albon a shot to see if he can handle the Red Bull car, but let's not forget people: Gasly has done well with the Toro Rosso. I'm not 100% sure what will happen at this point, but when the season resumes next week, I'll be watching the Red Bulls and the Toro Rossos closely

Redbull taking the biggest chance of there life!Albom as more pressure so there for will find it hard to match his team mate.He will make big mistakes like any other driver. I ask who's fault will it be if he fails to prosper? I think redbull are crazy changing driver halfway through the season.it doesn't just put pressure on the Alborn..it puts pressure on max stap..we wait and see what happens!Good luck to Alborn..hope he does him self proud.and prove he is the right choice for the job....

Well considering albon was more likely to win the championship in a toro Rosso compared to Gasly in a red bull even tho the car is fitted to Verstappens skills

Austrian entrepreneur Dietrich Mateschitz was inspired by an existing energy drink named Krating Daeng, which was first introduced and sold in Thailand by Chaleo Yoovidhya. He took this idea, modified the ingredients to suit the tastes of Westerners,[6] and, in partnership with Chaleo, founded Red Bull GmbH in 1987 in Chakkapong, Thailand. In Thai, daeng means red, and a krating (known in English as a gaur or Indian bison) is a large species of wild bovine native to South Asia. Yoovidhya's heirs own majority stakes in both brands, and they both use the same red bull on yellow sun logo while continuing to market the separate drinks to the respective Thai and Western markets

i think Mr. Horner can really handle genius like Alonso as he shown with MAX. and in many others. Come on RB- you can fix the relation between Alonso and Honda. I wish all F1 fans will agree on this. Please RB. & why not?

  • Stefan Kurcubic
    Stefan Kurcubic 3 months ago

Well, Gasly is a teammate to one of the best drivers right now and one that can be on pair with Hamilton in the future. And if he gets a chance to drive for the best teams, maybe even better. So the only thing wrong about Gasly is that he is competing against the best. Its the same with Bottas. He is not a bad driver if you look at his times and stats, but if you compare him to Hamilton, he is no where close. Albon will maybe have better chances, and they wont give the seat to Kvyat yet, as that would be his second chance, and he is not good enough right now. Maybe Albon does something great, maybe not. I think RB are sure that Max will stay for next season, they are just trying to find the best driver no2 in the house.

That's a big negative ghost rider. Albon will not do better then Gasly. Since Albon will still serve as a test car to develop Max's car. If Red Bull upgraded the cars evenly I'd say that you'd see better results from Gasly.
